Hello
If you are hoping to sign your child or yourself up for a class please take the time to read through our policies so that when coming to our studio everyone is aware of what the expectations are. We just want everyone informed so that it keeps things running smoothy and our studio space a safe and welcoming place for everyone.
NATZ Studio Policy
We are thrilled that you are interested in joining us for some in studio sewing classes. In order to keep our studio running smoothly and a safe place for everyone I hope we can all agree on the information provided below. Printed copies will also be sent home with students and are to be read as part of the registration process so that nothing will be missed.
GENERAL INFORMATION
-
Registration is open until classes are full. If you want to be placed on a waitlist please contact us and we will let you know when an opening comes up. If we do not offer classes on a day or time that works for you please also contact us to suggest them. If there is enough interest we may open up another class time.
-
Classes will follow the local school schedule.
-
Students can REGISTER at any point during the year while we are running the classes as long as there is space. All students work at their own pace through their own Kids Can Sew© packet allowing them to start at anytime.
-
Classes are currently held on Monday and Tuesdays weekly from September to May for 1hour in length.
-
Students MUST be 8 years of age by December of this year Even if your child reaches the age requirement not all children are ready to sew, please check out our information your child's readiness to sew HERE .
-
No experience is necessary for students to begin classes with us. They can register for any class time and will be provided the appropriate Kids Can Sew© packet upon their first class.
-
Location is currently in our home basement studio located in the historical avenues in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
-
We are a pet friendly home. We have 1 cat and 2 dogs (kept upstairs). If your student has allergies or fear of animals please let me know when registering.
-
Sewing machines, tools and thread are provided in class. At this point I do not allow students to bring their own sewing machines as it takes time to set up and take down leaving less sewing time. Instead I encourage students to have projects at home they can use to experiment and learn on their own. If they have problems at home they can then ask them during their class time. It is good for them to have a chance to problem solve on their own.
-
Materials such as the fabric, elastic, thread (if wanting a different colour other than white), buttons, zippers, etc. are the Students responsibility. This allows them to have fun picking exactly what they want for each of their projects This is different for sewing camps see camp policies below.
-
Students use Kids Can Sew© packets during our weekly classes. They are great teaching tools with real patterns for the students to follow. If your student has completed all levels or has had lots of sewing experience they may use their class time to sew projects that the instructor feels are appropriate for their skill level. Basically an advanced teen sewing time where the instructor guides them through any steps they need help with making the project of their choice.
-
If students forget to bring their projects to class and come unprepared, I do not provide anything else for them to do. Teaching our students to be mindful and responsible for their own projects is part of our classroom lessons and expectations.
-
The instructor will try and send home a printed supply list in advance for each up and coming project so you can purchase the materials needed. The list may include more than one project if that project will only take your student a short time to complete.
-
FOOD & DRINK: Our weekly classes are not long enough therefore we do not take time for snack breaks. We do allow water ONLY into the studio in spill proof cups. Please do not send your student with anything but water to our studio. We do not want to worry about any projects, tools or machines getting sticky and ruined by food or sticky drinks. Nor do we want to take time cleaning up spills when class time is so limited. **If there is a medical condition this is the ONLY time we will make an exception.
-
TOOLS/SAFETY: During classes students will always be taught sewing tool safety for using scissors, sewing machine, hot irons, pins and needles. Students always need to be aware of their surroundings and always use these tools safely. If your child, after polite requests to stay safe, is unable to keep focus or causes disruption to the point we are concerned for safety, the student will be asked to refrain from sewing or using tools for the remainder of class and parents may be called to pick them up early.
-
While studio machine/tool care and instruction will be provided, there is an inherent risk of minor injury (including but not limited to pin pricks, cuts, or burns). For minor cuts or burns we will provide burn spray and band aids.
-
I do recommend that students bring some form of indoor footwear. No matter how hard we try, pins tend to get dropped and go missing on the floor all the time, trust us when we say no one wants to step on one.
Tuition & Attendance Policy
TUITION & ATTENDENCE POLICY
-
Tuition can be paid through three different plans Pay Monthly, Pay By Semester or Pay Yearly
-
Monthly tuition is due the first of the month.
-
Semester tuition plan is paid September 1st and February 1st.
-
Yearly tuition is paid upon registration along with registration fee.
-
There is a registration fee paid when you register. This covers the use and maintenance of all our sewing machines, tools and notions provided in class as well as administration.
-
Any tuition fees paid via cash or e-transfer that are not paid on time will be charged a late fee of $10.
-
There are no refunds on tuition for classes missed for any reason (sick, out of town, forgot, has homework) as tuition cost is not pro-rated. There are no exceptions for this.
-
Tuition is the same amount regardless of the number of classes offered/attended throughout the month or year. We have based the tuition off of having an average of 3 classes a month throughout the year (Sept - May) that are split into equal payments depending on which plan you choose. This means there are extra classes already built into the year.
ARRIVAL & PICK UP POLICY
-
Doors open 5min from the start time so please don't arrive earlier than that. If you do please have your student wait in your vehicle until your class time or contact me prior to this to make arrangements.
-
Please pick up and drop off your student on time. I teach in my home and do not want to take away more time from my family than I scheduled to be. Please be respectful of that.
-
If there are classes after your child's class I will not be able to supervise and will need that time to prep for the next one or take a personal break.
-
If late pick ups become a regular thing a supervision fee will incur.
-
We understand that life happens and unexpected delays can occur, please contact the instructor immediately so we don't send out your student to wait outside.
-
Prompt pick up is appreciated as we only have one sided street parking. If your class is in the evening it is more important that you do not arrive more than 5min early and leave promptly with your student. I want our neighbors to continue supporting us in our business and do not want them to become frustrated with no place to park. Don't stress about this, we just want you to be mindful of that fact.
Cancellation Policy
CLASS CANCELLATION POLICY
We really appreciate your business and understand life doesn't always go as planned. I hope you too can understand the following policies as we need to uphold them to keep our small business running.
-
Please contact us if a student will not be attending certain classes so we don't worry about them. If you know ahead of time when your student will be away, notify the instructor ASAP so we can make note they will be absent.
-
We do not offer make up classes for any missed. Our classes are done in a way that students are never behind as they are done at the students' pace so no need to worry that there will be gaps in your students learning.
-
If for some reason you need to withdraw your student, a 30 day notice must be given.
-
Students who are withdrawing from Classes paid with the yearly plan will receive a refund of the months following the 30day notice, minus the registration fee. Example: The student has given notice at the start of January they will be withdrawing from classes beginning February. That student will be refunded the 4 remaining months(February-May) Tuition divided by 9 months = total. That total multiplied by months not used will = tuition to be refunded.
-
For the students who are withdrawing from classes paid by semester plan will be refunded the remaining tuition starting from the month after the 30days notice. Semester Tuition is divided by 4 months (Sept-Dec) or 5 months (Jan-May) depending on when the student is withdrawing. That total will be multiplied by the remaining months. That total will then be refunded minus the registration fee.
-
Monthly paying students that withdraw from class will have their payment schedule canceled from further future payments.
-
If a student withdraws from classes 14+ days before the start of class a full refund minus the registration fee will be refunded.
-
Any Sewing Camp withdrawals made 2 days prior to the start date will receive a full refund.
-
If a Sewing Camp student withdraws less than 2 days prior they will only receive a refund if the spot can be filled from a waitlist.
-
If a student needs to withdraw from camp or miss any camp days there are no refunds available in part or in full. *We are running a small business and we understand things come up, but we also hope you understand we want to continue providing this service for our local community and will have to uphold this policy.
-
INSTRUCTOR CANCELLING CLASSES: If for any reason the instructor needs to cancel a class due to illness or the weather there will be no classes offered to make up for it as there are more than 25 classes already built into the schedule. If for some reason more than 4 classes are cancelled by the instructor at that point the instructor will compensate by making up class times or by pushing forward those payments to future classes or camp.

-
Materials are provided. No need to bring anything.
-
Snack times will be taken for sewing camps running for 2hrs or longer. In these cases Students may bring a small snack if needed. Please bring only non-sticky easy to eat snacks to avoid messes and projects, tools or sewing machines getting ruined. For drinks only water is allowed in our studio in spill proof cups. Please be mindful of this as we really do not want to take time out of teaching to have to clean up messes or replace ruined equipment due to an accident that can be avoided from the start by respecting this policy.
-

-
