STUDENT SEWING JOURNEY
Each student has a unique sewing journey so we have found a program to use in our classes called Kids Can Sew©. It allows students to follow a 5 level learning path to building confidence, sewing skills and creativity one project at a time. We love that this program progresses students at their own pace so they can master new techniques and develop a strong foundation through the different projects they work through. This is why we allow for any student to join any class no matter what level they are at.
For our teens they will start out with the Teen KCS level and once that is completed they will branch out into sewing whatever inspires them with the help of our instructors.
NOTE: KCS curriculum is included with all our weekly sewing classes.
Kids Can Sew© TEEN
Kids Can Sew© TEEN guide and pattern is the best place to start if your student is 13+, has never sewn before or has never worked with patterns. Each student joining one of our weekly classes will be required to have their own Kids Can Sew© guide and pattern. Below are a few details about the curriculum so you will be able to determine if this is the right Level for your student.

The pattern guide is a full colour instruction booklet that is designed, written, & illustrated in a fun way to help students understand and gain a solid foundation of sewing. At the end of the book there is a checklist that the student can use to keep track of their progress. When they have finished there is also a Certificate of Completion they can use to celebrate their hard work.

The Teen pattern packet includes 6 full multi sized patterns. They include: Purse, Lounge Shirt, Capris, Pillow, Large and Small Bag, Zippered Clutch, Lounge Pants.

SKILLS LEARNED
There are many skills involved in sewing and the TEEN guide and pattern will give the teen students a good handle on the beginner sewing skills learned in levels1-3. It will also introduce some intermediate skills like working with box corners, top stitching and more.

There are many skills involved in sewing but for level 1 the focus here will be on learning about sewing symbols, reading directions, seam allowance, fabric layout, measuring, pinning, pattern layout, cuttings, casing, hemming, facings, and pivoting.
Kids Can Sew© Level 1.5
Kids Can Sew© Level 1.5 can be used to replace level 1 if you prefer the projects learned in this level or it can be used as the first year for a student who has had some sewing machine experience. Each student joining one of our classes will be required to have their own Kids Can Sew© guide and pattern. Below are a few details about this level of curriculum so you will be able to determine if this is the right Level for your student.

There are many skills involved in sewing but for level 2 the focus here will be learning how to use different sewing feet, advanced sewing techniques like pleating, seam finishes, and how to sew using specialty fabrics like knits.
